There is always something exciting going on at Cypress Glen!
Cypress Glen celebrated National Active Aging Week September 24-28. This week is a campaign calling attention to and celebrating the positivity of aging today. The objective of the annual health-promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment. It also promotes the benefits of healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span. At Cypress Glen, we started on Monday by offering free mini-facials by a licensed esthetician from the Serenity Group. We transformed our Aerobics Room into a spa for the day and residents were able to relax and enjoy being pampered. On Tuesday, we welcomed Nutrition Specialist, Briceida Osbourne from Vidant Wellness Center for a Lunch & Learn. The Cypress Glen dining staff prepared a wonderful healthy menu consisting of tabouli salad, pan-grilled tuna with a pineapple salsa, veggie rice, stir fry vegetables, and a fresh berry parfait. Following lunch, Ms. Osbourne gave a talk on nutrition and aging and provided informative handouts. Wednesday was dedicated to fitness testing. Residents had the opportunity to sign-up for a time to meet with our Wellness Coordinator, Rachel Schwager. During their appointment residents had the option to have their height, weight and BMI calculated along with six different physical assessments measuring lower body strength, upper body strength, flexibility, endurance, agility, and balance. Each score gauged the participants for their age group and opportunity was provided to learn proper exercises for their needs. On Thursday we were able to welcome a line dance instructor to offer a fun class for our residents. We enjoyed dancing to everything from the Electric Slide to the Macarena! All the residents who attended had a great time and hope to do it again soon! Friday's scheduled trip to River Park North to walk the nature trails, however, had to be rescheduled due to weather. Overall, throughout the week we had close to 50 residents participate in various events. It was a successful and fun Active Aging Week at Cypress Glen!
Friday, August 24th, at 3:00 pm in the Auditorium To help celebrate the “dog days of summer” we are hosting our annual dog show! Canines from both residents and staff can enter the show by signing up in the Events Book located in the mail room by Wednesday, August 22nd. Dogs and owners will strut down the “dog walk” onto the stage where they can perform a trick or just show off their doggie cuteness. Dogs will be awarded for titles such as “best in show,” “best barker,” “best tail-wagger,” “best dressed,” “owner/dog look-a-like,” and more!
