Cypress Glen celebrated National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday May 29th! Vidant Wellness Center was a nationally recognized site this year so we chose to join them for part of the day. Vidant had mini classes of various kinds for seniors to come participate in. We took a group over in the morning and were able to enjoy the Aerobics, Zumba, Line Dance, Tai Chi and Chair Yoga classes! The residents really enjoyed it, and it gave us all a chance to try something new. Afterwards Cypress Glen hosted a Lunch and Learn open for all the residents. A nutritionist from Vidant Heart Center came and spoke about a “heart healthy diet” and even discussed some of the benefits of the DASH Diet which our Dining team here at Cypress Glen has recently been trying to incorporate on the menu. Our Dining staff came up with a delicious meal for the residents to enjoy featuring heart healthy items that will now be cycling on the regular menu. Residents were able to take home handouts and information from both Vidant and the Lunch and Learn on wellness topics for seniors along with some healthy snack bars they could try. Over all it was a great success, and we had a blast celebrating the day and highlighting the importance of wellness here at Cypress Glen!
